FIRST IMPRESSIONS

visual: Demeisen's current form is that of a gaunt human man, relatively young, standing 6'1" in height. His complexion is mid-dark. with dark eyes and hair, and a flat nose.

features: Those with advanced sensory capabilities may note that Demeisen's body is not biological in nature. He does not contain the guts, gases and fluids that a living human would have, and his body is deceptively dense, making him heavier than his slight build would imply.

aural: His voice is dry and smooth, and his speech somewhat quick, though it can vary considerably depending on his mood. Slang and profanity make frequent appearances.

olfactory: Demeisen generally smells only like the clothes he's wearing and not much else, given his non-biological nature.

demeanour: Generally flippant and unempathetic; he is self-described as borderline eccentric and very slightly psychotic. Demeisen emotes freely when he talks, broadcasting his moods with expressions and gestures.

SHARD

Located at the back of his neck, just below the base of his skull. It is round and darkly iridescent, like a large black pearl. Usually it is covered by his hair.

ASPECT TATTOO

Located on the inside of his left wrist, the Stargazer shape is both highly reflective and holographic, appearing as different colours depending on the angle it's viewed at. The solid shape in the centre radiates out in outlines that grow increasingly thinner, like ripples from a tossed stone.

PERSONALITY

A flippant, insensitive, and somewhat odd individual, Demeisen is someone with far too much time on his hands and a willingness to make it everyone else's problem. He has spent his entire existence being either bored, lonely, or both, sitting in a particular region of the galaxy while waiting for stuff to happen, and it has made him a little eccentric. As the avatar of a warship with no wars to stick itself in the midst of, he spends a significant chunk of his time pursuing questionable hobbies or pissing people off just for something to do. He has little interest in understanding most people particularly well, and as a result tends to get impatient with others easily.

Beneath this bizarre and somewhat appalling exterior is an interior persona that is still bizarre and appalling, but also genuinely caring of other living beings, to at least some extent. His gallantry is somewhat dubious given his unrepentantly abrasive personality and severe lack of empathy, but it is genuine, if fickle and carried out in frustrating ways.

BACKGROUND

Built at some point after the late 19th century CE, by the early 29th century, the Falling Outside The Normal Moral Constraints is one of 2,000 Abominator-class ships scattered evenly throughout the galaxy. The FOTNMC travels to the Sichultian Enablement with a single human passenger, Lededje Y'breq, ostensibly to ferry her back home. On its way there, the ship is attacked by a small fleet of GFCF craft, which it easily destroys; it then lends its aid in the Tsung system, with the aim of eliminating a nanotech swarm outbreak and demolishing a secretly-built fleet of ships, some of which are headed for Sichult itself. The ship's avatar, Demeisen, accompanies Lededje to Sichult, where he sabotages her attempt to revenge herself on her one-time owner and murderer, then pretends to leave in order to head back to Tsung. However, he remains at Sichult, and reappears to save Lededje and kill her murderer.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

Synthetic

As a ship avatar, Demeisen is highly resilient and does not require biological niceties like food, water, sleep, or breathable air. He can comfortably exist in a wide variety of temperatures and atmospheric conditions. Diseases, drugs, and poisons have no effect on him, since he has no cells to attack or affect. He can, however, go through the motions of eating and drinking if he likes. Comes out just like it went in! Eatable and drinkable. :)

limitations: Any weapon capable of damaging an armoured person will be able to damage him. Furthermore, magical effects that mimic drugs or poisons might still work on him, because ✨magic✨.

Memory

Demeisen's fancy computer brain can store data with just the same perfect acuity you might expect from an advanced futuristic machine. He recalls everything he's done and everything he's experienced with flawless accuracy.

Senses

Sophisticated sensory equipment allows Demeisen to not only see and hear much better than a human—including seeing without the aid of visible-spectrum light—but also allows him to pick up detailed readings on nonliving material and on biological beings, such as brainwaves, heart-rate, capillary contraction and skin moisture.

Strength & Speed

His strength and speed are significantly above human levels, allowing him to do things like slap an incoming artillery shell away from his face without even looking at it. The avatar of a more outdated, demilitarized Culture warship in the same book was able to move almost too quickly to be seen by even an augmented human, navigate a pitch-black staircase at a dead run, and send burly men flying with a single strike of their hand.

limitations: His strength and speed would be reduced to comply with the power cap, and going "all out" would impose Discord the longer he kept it up, limiting the amount of time he could do so at a stretch.

Regeneration

As long as Demeisen is not outright killed, he can repair himself using "nano dust" manufactured inside his body. This repair is relatively rapid, but not fast enough to repair serious injuries inside a single scene.

limitations: It's not fully clear how much punishment an avatar can usually take before it "dies," but for game purposes I'd say extensive damage to the head or chest will be sufficient.

Shapeshifting

Demeisen is capable of changing his humanoid appearance to suit his desires, such as in order to more closely resemble pan-human ethnic groups from different parts of the galaxy. (Pan-humans can have more or fewer joints, fur, strange proportions, and other extremely varied features.) Though he is currently a man, he is known to be fond of changing his appearance, including his gender. While this change can be gradual, he can also alter his appearance rapidly for functional reasons, such as to turn mirrored in order to reflect harmful light.

System Manipulation

By using his effectors, Demeisen is able to interface remotely with technology, whether for the purpose of communication, sabotage, or outright control. This ability has significant range and scope, being capable of simultaneously controlling an entire parking lot's worth of self-driving cars. He can also use them on biological creatures, such as to stun (partially or wholly), cause dizziness or pain, or even drop someone unconscious.

limitations: I'll always be seeking OOC permission before using Demeisen's effectors in this way on another character. The range will be reduced (a single target at a somewhat longer range, or several in closer proximity), and using the effectors for this purpose will also increase his Discord. For opt-out purposes, I would also say that for unknown Kenos reasons, sometimes the effectors just won't work.

Anti-Gravity Units

AG units allow Demeisen to manipulate gravitational fields around him in order to hover and fly around, up to the game's power cap.

Harmonization Abilities

communion: Through communion, Demeisen can psychically communicate information, imagery, and even memories or emotions with other shard-bearers. In the presence of other Stargazers, he may even find it difficult to block out their emotions or avoid transmitting his own.

teleportation: As a shard-bearer, Demeisen can teleport from Cornerstone to Cornerstone, enabling him to travel to any island on Kenos where a Cornerstone is established.

purification: Demeisen can purge Discord from other shard-bearers through physical contact. This ability is able to reduce the Discord level of Advocates and Exalts, but it can also temporarily soothe the Discord symptoms of Harbingers and Savants.

Spells gained through harmonization are not limited by spell slots, but do cause some amount of Discord buildup when used. Tier 1 spells increase Discord by only a minor amount when used, but higher tier spells cause Discord to build up faster.

• Feather Fall—Tier 1 spell. Slows the falling speed of up to five falling creatures within 60 feet.
• Find Familiar—Tier 1 spell. Summons a familiar that can communicate telepathically with Demeisen and allow him to access its senses as long as it is within 100 feet. His familiar generally takes the form of a scout missile: a missile-shaped drone about the size of a small finger.
• Fog Cloud—Tier 1 spell. Creates a 20-foot-radius sphere of fog centred around a point Demeisen can see. Lasts up to an hour, unless dispersed sooner by wind.

Writing Style: Brackets preferred, but I'm willing to match style.

Backtagging: I prefer to wrap threads up within 1–2 months, but I'm willing to backtag longer to get through a specific point in a thread.

Threadhopping: Generally fine if it's in a mingle or a reply to an open network post. Otherwise, ask.

Offensive Subjects: None, but I appreciate a warning before a thread veers wildly into unexpected territory.

IN CHARACTER

Physical Violence: Violence is just fine! Demeisen will de-escalate where possible, but he is very strong and sturdy, and can throw down with the best of them if necessary. As a note, I prefer a warning for graphic injuries; they don't bother me, but I prefer not to be surprised by a big tone shift partway through a thread.

Death/Dissipation: Only if we've agreed on it for the thread.

Physical Affection: Touch away; he has no shame or personal space.

Shipping/Sex: Shipping is a big "maybe/it would probably be weird and eldritch" considering his personality is based on a spaceship's, but he will absolutely fuck. I'm not sure I want to actually write smut with him, but fade-to-black and handwaving is fine.

Mental/Communion: Breaking into or affecting his mind is likely to be hard for most non-Stargazers, but not impossible! Ideally, touch base with me first so we can discuss how it goes.

Offensive Subjects: None for him, but Demeisen is often crude and insensitive, and will discuss anything and everything, so if you or your character have topics I should be mindful of, please comment to his permissions post.
